Jaywalker free magazine of the arts was published monthly in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and is still available online at all times right here! We hope to get some version of it going again. For now, it is an archival site only.

Check out our old publisher's new blog, The Metaphor Observatory, with plenty of examples of contemporary metaphor in the media.

The Galleries of Kingston Series

Kingston has dozens of art galleries, ranging in presence from tiny, shared-use venues through to the overwhelming Agnes Etherington Art Centre. Few, if any, can name every location in Kingston that features a regular rotation of artwork. The Jaywalker Collectible Bookmarks are our contribution to encouraging and bringing greater visibility to Kingston's galleries, and in turn, Kingston artists and arts organizations.

Each month, Jaywalker prints up new bookmarks and inserts them in the magazines. Each colourful cardstock bookmark comes with details about a specific gallery, including a map, complete with nearby parking. These numbered bookmarks are designed to fit together into tours, or to stand alone, to serve as a reminder of Kingston's artistic vitality.

Having one's gallery commemorated in the bookmark is free of charge. Jaywalker writes a positive description of the location, and wherever possible, details about the type of artwork one could expect to find. In future months, a master list will be printed, with greater descriptions, more details, and walking and bicycle tours. Again, this will be cost free to galleries.

The Jaywalker Crew is very excited about our bookmark program, and feel honored to have the opportunity to help both residents and visitors explore the cultural diversity of Kingston.
